GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to perform secretarial and support functions for the legal staff of the office of the Prosecuting Attorney. Processes criminal files from initiation to closure for all three courts. Prepares and processes legal documents, generates warrants, pleadings, and correspondence. Maintains case files and provides general secretarial support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Performs various secretarial tasks, support functions, and limited legal research for the legal staff of the office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
  • Sets up, processes and maintains of civil and criminal case files from initiation to closure for District Court, Circuit Court, and Family Division/Juvenile Court;
  • Prepares and processes a variety of legal documents. Scans documents into electronic storage system;
  • Processes various motions, court orders and other legal documents.
  • Provides professional customer service to visitors, clients, judges, attorneys and Prepares a variety of legal documents pertaining to child support, parenting time, medical insurance/reimbursement and custody.
  • Processes and tracks various orders for statistical reporting to the State Court Administrative Office.
  • Receives, processes and transports office mail to the Post Office. Enters payments in mail log and performs court rounds to deliver Orders, documents to County Clerk, judges and staff.
  • Receives various forms of child support and enters payments into the Michigan Child Support Enforcement System computer Receipt Posting website.
  • Updates and maintains the Barry County Friend of Court website.
  • Performs critical job functions in the absence of fellow staff members.
  • Assists public, law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and others with inquiries, and runs reports as required.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience Education: High School diploma or equivalency
Experience: 1 to 3 year's experience

  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the
    required skills, knowledge and abilities
