The Public Defender's Office assigns adults charged with criminal offenses in Barry County an attorney to represent them when they are unable to afford one on their own. 

The Public Defender's Office also represents individuals charged with criminal offenses in Barry County at the time of arraignment in order to request the setting of a reasonable bond amount based on the alleged offenses, as well as ensuring that all attorneys appointed to represent indigent defendants in Barry County complete required yearly training and meet the high standards of indigent representation as required by statute.
