Request Reports/FOIA
Accident Reports
The Barry County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for filing accident reports for accidents that occur in the county and are policed by the Sheriff’s Office. If you would like to obtain a copy of an accident report that was taken by the Sheriff’s Office, you will need to provide us with the following:
- Accident Report Number (if possible)
- Date of accident
- Location of accident occurrence
- With the above information, send an e-mail to aberdecia@barrycounty.org requesting a copy of the report.
Reports can be obtained in person during business hours, or by mail addressed to: Barry County’s Sheriff’s Office RECORDS DIVISION 1212 W. State Street Hastings, MI 49058
Freedom of Information Requests
The Records Division processes all Freedom of Information requests for the Sheriff’s Office. If you wish to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act for a report we have on file, you must submit a written letter, or obtain a form from the Sheriff’s office. The letter must explain in detail about the report you are looking for including the date or incident number, and the name(s) of the person (s) involved. If you did not initiate the report then you must describe your connection with the report. This is needed to determine what might be excluded under the Freedom of Information Act to protect the privacy of the individuals involved. There is a fee of $5.00 + 50 cents per page. If a FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) report is requested by mail, we also require a day-time phone number for contact purposes in case some clarification is needed.
