Pistol Purchase Permit

Barry County residents wanting to apply for a Permit to Purchase a handgun may do so by coming to the Sheriff’s Office Monday thru Friday from 8am to 4pm.

Bring the following:

  • Michigan Driver’s License or Michigan ID (valid with current address)
  • $5 cash (exact amount – no change is available)

A Permit to Purchase is valid for 30 days.

 Handgun Registration

Return the Licensing Authority copy of the Pistol Sales Record to our office within 10 days of purchase/transfer.

  • To return by mail, send to: Barry County Sheriff’s Office 1212 W State St, Hastings, MI 49058.
  • To return in person, place in the brown box in lobby. (Open 24/7)

It is no longer necessary to bring the handgun in for inspection.
