GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of complex clerical tasks involved in processing civil, criminal, and traffic cases. Provides information and assistance to law enforcement officers, attorneys, defendants, and court patrons. Substitutes for other court staff and provides general clerical assistance to the Judges and administrative staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibiiities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Performs a variety of complex clerical tasks involved in processing civil, criminal and traffic cases. Provides counter and phone service, receives and receipts money.
- Provides assistance on court matters to attorneys, law enforcement officers, prosecutor's office employees, the Michigan State Police Criminal History Records Division, Secretary of State, Barry County Central (911 Center), Barry County Sheriffs Department, LEIN operators and the general public.
- Enters case information into the court database and onto defendant's criminal histories and drivers licenses.
- Opens, receipts, processes documents to begin law suits in small claims, general civil suits, landlord/tenant evictions, land contract forfeitures, claim and delivery complaints.
- Opens, receipts mail. Sorts, stamps, seals and signs documents.
- Enters approved Garnishments, Writs, Property Seizures, Motions and Orders in the computer and prepare documents that need the Judges signature.
- Adds all money receipted in during the day and runs off proper reports to account for all monies taken in. Makes sure everyone in the civil division is balanced. Receipts all monies received at the civil desk counter.
- Assists and guides public appearing at the Court seeking to fife a law suit.
- Provides information and assistance to law enforcement officers, attorneys, defendants and court patrons.
- Assists in the traffic/criminal case processing.
- Substitutes for other court staff and provides general clerical assistance to the Judges and administrative staff.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
Education: High School diploma or equivalency Experience: Up to 1-year experience as deputy clerk
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
