Starting Hourly Rate: $10.00-$12.00 per hour; 18 hours per week maximum
Responsibilities/Duties: Clears and cleans county drains. Works to clear and dispose of brush, trees and debris from open ditches/drains.
Experience: None required; preferred previous work around heavy equipment.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance to county drains under the supervision of the Drain Commissioner or Deputy Drain Commissioner. This person will perform necessary tasks to clear drainage ditches of brush, debris, trees and various other types of obstructions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clears and cleans county drains; performs related tasks as required
- Removes and disposes of debris such as fallen trees and excessive brush, etc. from drains
- Operates equipment such as chainsaw, pole saw, rakes, shovels, weed cutter, etc. used to cut and clear trees and brush
- Any and all duties assigned by the Drain Commissioner or Deputy Drain Commissioner
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: High School Diploma or equivalency
Experience: Preferred experience working around heavy equipment and operating a chainsaw

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Walking long distances on uneven terrain
- Operating mowers/trimmers to mow drain sites and other hand tools
- Climbing up and down trenches
- Lifting objects weighing up to 200 pounds
- Lifting and operating a chain saw to cut trees and branches
- Stoop, kneel and crouch to work on drains
- Lifting, dragging and hooking chains to remove debris
- Pull in trees during tree cutting operations so they fall
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works outside in all types of weather conditions
- Work around heavy equipment
- Work and crawl through culverts (metal and plastic)
- Exposure to equipment where risk exists of getting cut, bruised or scraped
- Exposure to environmental allergens and wet conditions
- Exposure to pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals
- Works in areas with loud noise (heavy equipment, power equipment, etc.)
- Exposure to dust
- Comfortable working in water up to chest level; walking or in a boat
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- 0-18 hours per week with a maximum of 6 hours per day
- Available to work Monday – Saturday on a will call basis from 8a.m. – 5p.m.
- Cell phone use is prohibited on the job
