GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to manage the County Animal Shelter operations. Oversees adoptions, shelter, kennel operations, euthanasia, licenses, marketing and fundraising, medical treatment and veterinary services, community relations, volunteer recruitment and management, staff supervision, budget preparation, and staff and volunteer training. Supervises assigned staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Directs the daily operations of the Animal Shelter.
- Develops and implements marketing and fundraising efforts to develop donor relations and fund development to help financially support the Animal Shelter.
- Acts as primary spokesperson for the County Animal Shelter Program, answering questions and complaints from citizens, citizen groups, and various legally constituted bodies. Interacts with other public and private organizations.
- Educates the public regarding animal care, promotes positive public relations, and handles disputes and complaints from the public.
- Works cooperatively with other animal shelters, humane societies, veterinarians, volunteers, special events organizers, foster care organizations, and other persons and organizations to further the mission of the Animal Shelter.
- Supervise and direct volunteers, community service workers and others assisting in the operation of the Animal Shelter.
- Provides direct supervision for program staff in accordance with established County policies and procedures, with current collective bargaining agreements and with all applicable statutes and regulations governing the employment relationship.
- Performs the normal, managerial personnel management tasks such as recruiting and selecting new employees, training subordinate personnel and volunteers, evaluating employee performance, disciplining employees, handling complaints and grievances.
- Ensures compliance with all codes, laws, rules and regulations, standards and policies and procedures applicable to the operation of the Animal Shelter.
- Prepares annual budget request and administers the budget, including ammendments for the County Animal Shelter program. Orders supplies and equipment as authorized.
- Oversees the Animal Shelter budget including monitoring expenditures, performance of bookkeeping functions and preparation of financial reports, balancing of daily receipts and preparation of deposits, ensuring payment to vendors on a timely basis and compiling financial information as requested.
- Perform related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience:
Education: Associates Degree in Animal Control Management, Law Enforcement Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience: Three years of work related experience and administration of an organization of comparable complexity, including experience and knowledge in marketing and fundraising, animal shelter funding, animal handling and animal welfare.
