Surcharges are charged on the 1st of January and the 1st of July to qualifying balances owed to the payee or the State of Michigan. The amount of the surcharge changes depending on the average interest rate on money judgments plus one percent. If the support payer has paid 90% or more of the support that was due in the previous six months, no surcharge will be assessed.
