Parenting Time Abatement is an adjustment applied to child support accounts when parenting time exceeds six consecutive nights or as outlined in your court order. There must be an abatement provision within your court order to receive this adjustment.
You must send a written request to the Friend of the Court specifying the date the children started parenting time and the date they were returned. Upon receipt of the request, the parenting time dates are entered into the MiCSES computer system. Notices are sent to both parties.
If no objection is received, the MiCSES computer system calculates the credit and applies it to the account. If an objection is received the dates are modified according to the objection and a second notice is mailed to both parents. If the non-custodial parent does not agree to the changes they can request in writing a parenting time dispute hearing before the Referee.
Please Note:
- Parenting time abatement requests should not be submitted for future dates.
- Parenting time abatements should be submitted as they occur in a timely manner.
