The duties of the Clerk are prescribed by State Statute and includes Clerk of Circuit Court and keeper of the Circuit Court Seal. Has control of divorce, civil and criminal cases. The official seal is used to certify some 275 documents of papers. Clerk of the Board of Commissioners; presents all communication to the Board and prepares all minutes. Clerk of the Election Board. Assist in canvassing the votes cast and prepares certification and minutes. Prepares ballots for County, State and National Elections. Supervises all elections, Clerk of the Jury Commission; prepares the typewritten list of names drawn from the Driver’s License list from the Secretary of State. Clerk of the Gun Board; prepares all permits and acts as clerk of the Board and issues all permits when approved. Registrar of Vital Records; issues certified copies of Births, Deaths, and Marriages. Takes applications and processes all Marriage Licenses. Handles County payroll. Pays all bills and vouchers of the County. Files all Assumed Name and Co-Partnerships. Files all Professional Registrations. Member of the County Plat Board. Files and administers Campaign Finance laws. Fees are established by law and turned over to the County General Fund. Births and Death on file from 1867; Marriages on file from 1839; Circuit Court from 1850.
